Seasons of the Year Anchor Charts and Activities for Kids

Are you looking for new ways to help students understand the causes and characteristics of the seasons of the year? Don’t get to experience all 4 seasons where you live? No problem! With these activities, we can teach kids to:

  • identify characteristics of each season

  • use seasonal patterns to make choices about clothing and activities

Weather and seasons go hand in hand. Make sure to read Weather Anchor Charts and Activities for Kids.

Understanding Characteristics of Each Season

Introduce the characteristics of each season with fun and colorful season anchor charts. Students can use the interactive notebook pages to illustrate what they learn about each season. They can refer to the pages throughout the year.

Season Flap Book

Students can continue leaning about the weather and temperature of each season with an engaging season flap book. You can complete a different season each day.

Winter

The weather is cold during winter. It may snow. You should wear warm clothes.

Spring

The weather is warmer during spring. It can rain or storm. You can wear rain boots and a rain jacket.

Summer

The weather is hot during summer. There is a lot of sunshine. You can swim. There is usually no school during the summer months.

Fall

The weather is cooler during fall. The leaves begin to change colors. The leaves fall from the trees. You can wear a jacket and pants.

Seasonal Clothing Activities

We can help our students foster a sense of independence by teaching them how to dress appropriately for each season. Students will look at each picture and determine the correct season. They will glue each picture under the correct season.

Guess the Season Game

Students can continue practicing their season identification skills with a whole group game called Guess the Season. Students will incorporate their nonfiction text feature skills to help them guess what season is shown in a close up picture. The highlight of the game is when students get to see if their answers are correct!

Wrap-Up

No matter how many seasons you see where you live, your students will love exploring the characteristics of seasonal activities.

  • Introduce vocabulary with season anchor charts and interactive notebook pages.

  • Create a season flap book and play Guess the Season for independent practice.
